The Municipality of Urk has been growing by approximately 1,000 new inhabitants every three years in recent decades. Currently, Urk has over 20,000 inhabitants, and to accommodate this growth, agricultural plots are being developed for housing. The new residential area Zeeheldenwijk will provide space for approximately 5,000 residents until 2030. The first phase has now (almost) been made ready for residential development/construction.
