Drought Mitigation Approach Lampenbroek
Waterschap Vallei en Veluwe aims to restore the Lampenbroek nature reserve, which is currently dry and losing biodiversity. The assignment includes removing the nutrient-rich topsoil on purchased agricultural plots, infilling adjacent ditches, creating a slightly meandering course for the Verloren and Loenense Beek, applying riparian vegetation, forest planting on the west side of the Loenense Beek, and installing a new automated weir with a fish passage. The goal is to restore the water balance, protect rare orchids in the core area, and maintain the Natura2000 status. The assignment is open, focused on works, and requires an integrated approach of hydrology, landscape architecture, and nature management.

The Lampenbroek nature reserve is located below the village of Klarenbeek. The area is part of the Gelders Natuurnetwerk (GNN); a portion has Natura2000 status. Three streams flow through the area: the Verloren Beek, the Loenense Beek, and the Voorsterbeek. The nature in Lampenbroek has dried out and must be restored. If this restoration does not occur, the diversity of plants and animals will further decrease. Only in the core of Lampenbroek can rare orchid species still maintain themselves. The water authority and Natuurmonumenten are redesigning the nature reserve from its current state. Fo
