01What is being requested
Research into the optimal design and restoration of stream mouths along the Maas and Rijn. The assignment includes a duration of 3 years and involves, among other things, desk research, interviews, field research and the delivery of various end products such as a basic typology and factsheets.
The results of this research serve to strengthen the function of stream mouths as a link between the capillaries (streams in the hinterland) and the arteries (the large rivers) of the water system. Additionally, the risks and dilemmas involved in stream mouth restoration will be better mapped, so they can be better taken into account. Think, for example, of hydrology, water quality and invasive alien species. This should lead to practical solutions based on the results of the research.
02Strategic insight
Ensure a hierarchical approach in the research in which both the macro scale and the fine scale level are highlighted. Emphasize the practical applicability of the results for managers and policymakers. Ensure that the quality team possesses the necessary expertise for both ecology and hydrology.
