A08.319 Renovation of Stationspleintunnel Leiden
The Municipality of Leiden intends to renovate the 335-meter long Stationspleintunnel on the Schipholweg. The tunnel, built in the 1990s, has reduced fire resistance; heat tests in 2020 demonstrate that the concrete structure spalls at high temperatures. Therefore, the tunnel must be provided with fire-resistant cladding, which requires a long-term closure. Simultaneously, various installations are at the end of their service life and the road surface must be replaced. The assignment includes the installation of fire-resistant cladding, the replacement of outdated installations, the renewal of the road surface, and the minimization of traffic obstructions during the works. The procurement is non-public and focuses on a complete renovation with attention to safety, quality, and minimal disruption to public transport and traffic.

The Stationspleintunnel is a 335 m road tunnel consisting of two traffic tubes, each with 2 lanes. The tunnel is located on the Schipholweg under the bus station directly in front of Leiden Centraal station and was built and opened in the mid-1990s. Research into other structures from that period has shown that the concrete construction has lower fire resistance than expected, because the concrete used during that period spalls when subjected to high temperatures. This led to heat tests being conducted in the tunnel in 2020. Following the results of these tests, the tunnel manager decided that
